What is LoRaWAN?
LoRaWAN is an open global standard for secure, carrier-grade IoT connectivity.
LoRaWAN™ is a Low Power Wide Area Network designed to connect low-cost, battery operated sensors over long distances. Key benefit in using LoRa network over 3/4G equivalent is that devices can have very long battery life and gateway/network costs are relatively cheap. Devices can be in harsh environments that were previously too challenging or cost prohibitive to connect. Worldwide, more than 80 major carriers have
deployed LoRaWAN networks and 500+ key technology companies have deployed more than 50 million sensors worldwide.
LoRaWAN operates in the unlicensed band and supports indoor and outdoor applications. Like cellular, LoRaWAN technology is highly secure from end devices to the application server. Currently, there is 70,000+ LoRaWAN-based gateways deployed worldwide by 2019 and expected to reach 200,000 by 2020.
