Drinking water and staying sexy. Meet PAT had the privilege of hydrating the Australia’s fashion elite at this years 2014 Mercedes Benz Fashion week in Sydney. We thought we’d take a moment to reflect on why water is the world’s best beauty elixir. A few little health facts to ponder…..

  1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. This likely applies to half the worlds population too.
  2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
  3. Even mild dehydration will slow down ones metabolism as much as 3%.
  4. One glass of water shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters in a University of Washington study.
  5. Lack of water is the main trigger of daytime fatigue.
  6. Preliminary research indicates that 8 to 10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
  7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
  8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
  9. The human body is anywhere from 55-78% water. Muscle consists of 75% water, the brain consists of 90% of water, bone consists of 22% of water and blood consists of 83% water.
  10. Lose weight: Drinking water helps you lose weight because it flushes down the by-products of fat breakdown. Drinking water reduces hunger, it’s an effective appetite suppressant so you’ll eat less. Plus, water has zero calories.
  11. The functions of water in the human body are vital. Water transports nutrients and oxygen into cells, moisturises the air in lungs, helps with metabolism, protects our vital organs, helps our organs to absorb nutrients better, regulates body temperature, detoxifies the system and protects and moisturises our joints.
  12. Every cell in your body needs water from your head to toes. If you do not supply enough water to your body, your brain cannot function well, and you will get headaches or migraines. If you feel fatigued or headachy, it may be a sign of dehydration.
  13. Water helps to relieve headaches and back pains due to dehydration. Although many things contribute to headaches, dehydration is the most common reason for their occurrence.
  14. You’ll look younger when your skin is properly hydrated. Water helps to regenerate skin tissue, keeps the skin from becoming dry and increases the skins elasticity.
  15. Your brain is mostly made up of water, so drinking water helps you think better, be more alert and focused and concentrate better.
  16. Harmful effects of dehydration include tiredness, migraine, constipation, muscle cramps, irregular blood pressure, kidney problems and dry skin. If you’re 20% dehydrated there is even risk of death.
  17. Symptoms of dehydration include dark yellow or orange urine, generally pale yellow to clear when you have sufficient water intake, dry skin, thirst, hunger and fatigue.
  18. Drinking water regulates your body temperature. That means you’ll feel more energetic, especially when exercising. Water is essential for your muscle function as well.
  19. Drinking water raises your metabolism and aids digestion. Fibre and water go hand in hand to help keep you regular.
  20. Proper hydration helps keep your joints and muscles lubricated, so you’re less likely get cramps and sprains.
  21. Drinking plenty of water helps your body fight against flu and other ailments like kidney stones and heart attack. Water with lemon is often used for ailments like respiratory disease, intestinal problems, rheumatism and arthritis etc. Water improves your immune system.
  22. Water is used by the body to help flush out toxins and waste products. If your body lacks water, your heart needs to work harder to pump out the oxygenated blood to the cells and the rest of the vital organs.
  23. Some studies show that drinking a healthy amount of water may reduce the risks of bladder cancer and colon cancer. Water dilutes the concentration of cancer-causing agents in the urine and shortens the time in which they are in contact with bladder lining.
